Monday - Today students worked in their visual journals. All late visual journal assignments and all other late assignments are due Thursday, Sept. 29th. The Past and Future themed visual journal assignments are due next Monday.
Monday - Today students worked on a new Visual Journal Assignment. The theme is the past. Students also did reflections and turned in their Visual Journals with the last three assignments in them. Tuesday - Today students worked on the Mixed Media Painting Project. Wednesday - today was sketchbook day. Students spent the class working in their Visual Journals. Thursday - Today students worked on their visual journal assignments. the last week of the quarter, they will need to turn in 6 completed pages that they have worked on throughout the quarter. Friday - Today students learned about value and worked on Value or Gray Scales and started shading basic forms in preparation for what they will need to do for the Mixed Media Painting. The fourth hour class was interrupted by the code orange alarm.
Monday - Today students worked on a new Visual Journal Assignment. The theme of the new assignment is Family and Friends. Tuesday - Today students created a contour line drawing from a still life set up. Wednesday - Today was sketchbook day. Students spent the class period working in their Visual Journals. Students will be turning in their journals with the three latest assignments in them next Monday. Thursday - Today students began working on their first major project, a mixed media painting. Students began by decoupaging newspaper to a canvas board. Tomorrow students will be turning in their bell work handouts. Friday - Students worked on finishing their Visual Journal assignments. They will be turning in their Visual Journals on Monday with three new assignments in them.
Monday - Labor Day Tuesday - Today students worked on their newest Visual Journal Assignment: An Interest or Hobby. Wednesday - Today students continued to work in their visual journals. Students will need to have their pencil sets, erasers (kneaded and soft white or pink), and other required art materials. Thursday - Today we began a unit on observational drawing. Students used items from around the classroom to set up still life compositions and then drew from them. Friday - Today students created still life setups from objects and then created observational drawings from them. Monday is the last day to turn in late sketchbook assignments.
Monday - Today students reflected on and turned in their 3 visual journal entries that they should have completed for today. We also constructed portfolios to store work in. Tuesday - Today students were given a new Visual Journal Assignment. The theme this week is Words of Wisdom. Students are to create an artwork in their visual journal based on a quote. The students that did not complete and turn in the 3 visual journal assignments will have two weeks to complete their assignments for any credit. Wednesday - Students worked in their visual journals. Thursday - Today students turned in their bell work handouts. They then worked in their visual journals. Friday - Today students continued to work on the Visual Journal assignment based on a quote.
Monday - Today students were introduced to a new Visual Journal Assignment: Place. They were shown slides to see how others have addressed this theme. I demonstrated how to use plastic wrap and sea sponges and watercolors to create different textures. I also demonstrated how to use crayons, rubber cement, and masking fluid to resist the watercolors. students then worked in their visual journals. Students should have turned in their !/4 circle drawings. Tuesday - Today students continued to work in their Visual Journals on the the theme of place. Students should have at least three completed Visual Journal pages done by Next Monday. Wednesday - Sketchbook Day. Students continued working on the visual journal assignments. Thursday - Today I demonstrated some more image transfer techniques and how to use tracing paper in different ways in their visual journals. Students then worked in their visual journals on completing 3 pages by Monday. Friday - Today students worked on finishing the 3 visual journal pages to be turned in on Monday.
Monday - Today I demonstrated some different watercolor pencil techniques. Students practiced these techniques in their visual journals. Tuesday - Today I went over the expectations for the visual journals and gave an overview of how they will be graded. Students were given their first Visual Journal Assignment. The Assignment's theme is Identity and the students are exploring their ideas about who they are at this moment in time. The project is pretty open but there are 4 things they must show - an image of themselves (a photograph, image transfer, or drawing), they must write about themselves (written text, collaged, stenciled), there must be a drawing element, and they must use some of the techniques they have been practicing. Wednesday - Sketchbook Day - Today students continued to work in their visual journals on the Identity Assignment. Thursday - Today students continued to work in their visual journals on the Identity theme. They also turned in their first bell work handout. Friday - Each student was given a piece of paper with a 1/4 circle in a square. They then could create any kind of artwork in the square with the 1/4 circle as long as it shows creativity, craftsmanship and filled the space. Each artwork the students create is to become part of a larger artwork. If students finished early, they worked in their visual journals.
Monday - Today we watched a few videos on art and looked at some art pieces and discussed what art is and what art does for us. Syllabus and Sketchbook are due tomorrow.
Tuesday - Today we discussed what a visual journal is and looked at some examples. I demonstrated some watercolor techniques. Students began practicing these techniques. Students turned in their syllabus. Wednesday - This is sketchbook day. Students worked in their visual journals using the techniques they were showed. Thursday - Today we learned two different image transfer techniques - one using Goo Gone and the other using clear packaging tape. I also demonstrated a proper gluing technique using glue sticks. Friday - Students continued to work in their visual journals practicing the techniques demonstrated during the week, drawing, writing, and collaging in their sketchbooks. Thursday - Welcome to Art and Design class. Today we started going over the syllabus including contact information, class overview, and the required materials for the class. Students filled out a getting to know you handout. We also played some icebreaker games. Friday - Today we finished going over the syllabus covering the rules and procedures of the class. We also covered bell work procedures and did our first bell work square. The syllabus is due signed by Tuesday of next week. Students need to have a sketchbook by Tuesday of next week.
