Monday - Today I demonstrated some different watercolor pencil techniques. Students practiced these techniques in their visual journals.
Tuesday - Today I went over the expectations for the visual journals and gave an overview of how they will be graded. Students were given their first Visual Journal Assignment. The Assignment's theme is Identity and the students are exploring their ideas about who they are at this moment in time. The project is pretty open but there are 4 things they must show - an image of themselves (a photograph, image transfer, or drawing), they must write about themselves (written text, collaged, stenciled), there must be a drawing element, and they must use some of the techniques they have been practicing.
Wednesday - Sketchbook Day - Today students continued to work in their visual journals on the Identity Assignment.
Thursday - Today students continued to work in their visual journals on the Identity theme. They also turned in their first bell work handout.
Friday - Each student was given a piece of paper with a 1/4 circle in a square. They then could create any kind of artwork in the square with the 1/4 circle as long as it shows creativity, craftsmanship and filled the space. Each artwork the students create is to become part of a larger artwork. If students finished early, they worked in their visual journals.
